John Force Racing Weekend Wrap-Up – Seattle 2017


SEATTLE (Aug. 7) – Following is a weekend wrap-up and statistical recap for John Force Racing in the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways, the 16th round of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

Qualifying Results/Notes
- Qualified No. 8
o First time since October 2016 at Dallas; first time this season; 33rd time in his career
o Second time at Pacific Raceways (also No. 8 in 2010)
o JFR’s 95th career No. 8 in Funny Car
- Qualifying Round 1 (Right Lane): 3.973 seconds/307.23 mph; first three-second pass of qualifying and only one during this session (No. 1 of session and No. 1 overall; three bonus points)
- Qualifying Round 2 (Left Lane): 4.456 seconds/191.27 mph; tires shake late in the run (No. 13 of session and No. 3 overall; no bonus points in session and three bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 3 (Left Lane): 5.247 seconds/138.39 mph; hazes tires early (No. 12 of session and No. 5 overall; no bonus points in session and three bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 4 (Right Lane): 4.748 seconds/169.08 mph; spun tires in first third of the track (No. 9 of session and No. 8 overall; no bonus points in session and three bonus points overall)

- Elimination Round 1 (Left Lane): 3.939 seconds/327.03 mph, def. No. 9 J.R. Todd, quickest pass of the weekend; on the throttle quick and straight down the track; vs. Todd – now 1-1 all-time; 1-1 this season; 1-0 at Seattle
- Elimination Round 2 (Quarterfinals, Right Lane): 3.978 seconds/322.27 mph, lost to No. 1 Robert Hight, 3.937 seconds/323.50 mph; identical reaction times (.087 seconds) for the teammates, with Hight pulling away at 60 feet and every incremental thereafter; vs. Hight – 21-21 all-time; 0-1 this season; 0-1 at Seattle

- Qualifying Round 1 (Left Lane): 4.187 seconds/230.33 mph; slows about two thirds of the way down the track (No. 13 of session and No. 13 overall; no bonus points)
- Qualifying Round 2 (Right Lane): 6.043 seconds/110.68 mph; tires shook before a third of the way down the track (No. 14 of session and No. 14 overall; no bonus points in session and no bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 3 (Right Lane): 5.502 seconds/126.23 mph; hazes tires at about the 330-foot mark and slows (No. 14 of session and No. 14 overall; no bonus points in session and no bonus points overall)

- Elimination Round 1 (Left Lane): 3.919 seconds/327.19 mph, def. No. 13 Cruz Pedregon, 17.596 seconds/54.30 mph; bests qualifying time with strong pass while Pedregon left then slowed; vs. Pedregon – now 7-6 all-time; 1-0 this season; 2-0 at Seattle
- Elimination Round 2 (Quarterfinals, Left Lane): 3.937 seconds/323.50 mph, def. No. 5 Jack Beckman, fell behind at the light but steadily came back and took the lead after the 660-foot mark despite car shutting off early; vs. Beckman – now 8-9 all-time; 1-2 this season; 1-0 at Seattle
- Elimination Round 3 (Semifinals, Right Lane): 3.939 seconds/325.69 mph, lost to No. 1 Robert Hight, 3.905 seconds/323.66 mph; strong pass to show more consistency, but not enough to stay with Hight at the finish; vs. Hight – now 8-13 all-time; 0-3 this season; 0-1 at Seattle

- Qualifying Round 2 (Right Lane): 3.894 seconds/329.42 mph; takes top spot with run straight down the middle (No. 1 of session and No. 1 overall; three bonus points in session and five bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 3 (Right Lane): 3.908 seconds/327.59 mph; another strong pass and tops of the session (No. 1 of session and No. 1 overall; three bonus points in session and eight bonus points overall)

Race Victory Notes
- This is Hight’s 39th career NHRA Funny Car victory in 61 finals (.639).
- Hight has at least one victory in 13 seasons on the circuit and at least two victories in 12 of 13 seasons.
- Hight has two victories this season in four finals appearances.
- This is Hight’s first victory in two finals appearances at Seattle. His only other finals appearance came in 2005.
- This is the first race Hight has won from the No. 1 qualifying position since April 2012, in the Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C. He now has eight victories from the No. 1 position.
- Four of last five victories have come against Tommy Johnson Jr.
- JFR now has 83 victories in 285 races from the No. 1 qualifying position, and 639 elimination victories in 841 elimination rounds from No. 1 (.760).
- This was the 250th Funny Car victory for John Force Racing, extending the team’s record. Hight’s 39 wins are second in team history, behind team owner John Force’s 148.
- This was Hight’s 29th victory with crew chief Jimmy Prock.
- This is Prock’s 41sth victory as a crew chief with John Force Racing in 79 finals.
- Prock has now won races at JFR in each of his 15 seasons at the organization (2001-2014; 2017).
- This is JFR’s 12th Funny Car victory at Denver. JFR now has 107 elimination-round victories in 166 elimination rounds (.645).

- Elimination Round 2 (Quarterfinals, Left Lane): 4.004 seconds/271.30 mph, lost to No. 4 Clay Millican, 3.769 seconds/323/27 mph; was ahead at 60 and 330 feet but slowed after smoke was seen coming out of the car; vs. Millican – 3-7 all-time; 0-2 this season; 0-1 at Seattle
