John Force Racing Weekend Wrap-Up – Bristol 2017


BRISTOL, Tenn. (June 19) – Following is a weekend wrap-up and statistical recap for John Force Racing in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway, the 11th round of the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

Qualifying Results/Notes
- Qualified No. 6
o 1st time since last month at Topeka, Kan., 2nd time this season, and 57th time in his career
o 3rd time at Bristol Dragway (also qualified No. 6 in 2010 and 2013, which he won both times)
- Qualifying Round 1 (Left Lane): 4.069 seconds/317.57 mph; straight down the track with no problems and top speed of session (No. 4 of session and No. 4 overall; no bonus points)
- Qualifying Round 2 (Right Lane): 3.983 seconds/322.96 mph; another straight shot from A for B (No. 4 of session and No. 4 overall; no bonus points during session and no bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 3 (Right Lane): 5.266 seconds/144.23 mph; lost a cylinder and backed off about 400-foot mark (No. 6 of session and No. 4 overall; no bonus points during session and no bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 4 (Left Lane): 6.465 seconds/105.98 mph; smoked tires around the 300-foot mark (No. 12 of session and No. 6 overall; no bonus points during session and no bonus points overall)

Race Results
- Elimination Round 1 (Right Lane): 4.136 seconds/312.42 mph, def. No. 11 Del Worsham, 4.211 seconds/303.43 mph; trailed early but caught him around 330 feet and led the rest of the way despite losing a cylinder and crossing the centerline just after the finish; vs. Worsham – now 57-29 all-time; 4-0 this season; 1-1 at Bristol
- Elimination Round 2 (Right Lane): No Time/No Speed (crossed centerline, disqualified), lost to No. 3 Matt Hagan, 4.202 seconds/306.95 mph; lost cylinders, causing him to drift left and eventually over the centerline; vs. Hagan – now 20-16 all-time; 1-2 this season; 2-1 at Bristol

Elimination Round Records
- Now 1,275-553 (1,828 rounds) all-time in elimination rounds (.697)
- Now 83-47 (130 rounds) all-time in elimination rounds after qualifying No. 6 (.638)

o 1st time ever at Bristol Dragway and highest qualifying performance ever at the track
- Qualifying Round 1 (Left Lane): 5.251 seconds/139.82 mph; strong run until the 400-foot mark (No. 9 of session and No. 9 overall; no bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 2 (Right Lane): 3.952 seconds/324.90 mph; solid run down the track (No. 3 of session and No. 3 overall; one bonus point in session and one bonus point overall)
- Qualifying Round 3 (Left Lane): 5.284 seconds/130.91 mph; cylinder out at the start (No. 7 of session and No. 3 overall; no bonus points this session and one bonus point overall)
- Qualifying Round 4 (Right Lane): 4.412 seconds/197.28 mph; ran well until midway point then slowed (No. 9 of session and No. 4 overall; no bonus points this session and one bonus point overall)

- Elimination Round 2 (Quarterfinals, Right Lane): 4.343 seconds/221.42 mph; lost to No. 5 Jack Beckman, 4.321 seconds/276.75 mph; trailed early but reeled him in and pulled away, then lost cylinders and dropped a close finish; vs. Beckman – now 7-9 all-time; 0-2 this season; 0-2 at Bristol

- Qualifying Round 2 (Left Lane): 3.918 seconds/324.28 mph; straight down the track and into the top spot (No. 2 of session and No. 2 overall; two bonus points in session and two bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 3 (Left Lane): 4.023 seconds/311.77 mph; hot run in hot conditions for best run of session (No. 1 of session and No. 2 overall; three bonus points in session and five bonus points overall)

- Elimination Round 2 (Quarterfinals, Right Lane): 4.124 seconds/310.55 mph, lost to No. 10 Ron Capps, 4.090 seconds/314.31 mph; fell behind at the start, picked up the lead at 60 feet, but dropped behind by 330 feet and fell by about 21 feet; vs. Capps – now 30-28 all-time; 0-5 this season; 1-2 at Bristol

- Qualifying Round 2 (Right Lane): 4.723 seconds/156.15 mph; smoked the tires around 400 feet (No. 11 of the session and No. 14 overall; no bonus points in the session and no bonus points overall)
- Qualifying Round 3 (Right Lane): 3.934 seconds/308.35 mph; best run of three so far, with strong launch, but engine let go with big fireball after dropping cylinders around midway down the track (No. 3 of session and No. 10 overall; one bonus point in session and one bonus point overall)
- Qualifying Round 4 (Left Lane): 3.818 seconds/318.69 mph; jumped all the way to fourth, following run after rain delay, and stayed strong from start to finish (No. 4 of session and No. 5 overall; no bonus points in session and one bonus point overall)

- Elimination Round 1 (Right Lane): 3.897 seconds/310.55 mph, def. No. 12 Terry McMillen, 4.283 seconds/252.19 mph; fell behind early but caught up and pulled away when McMillen smoked tires; vs. McMillen – now 12-1 all-time; 2-0 this season; 1-0 at Bristol
- Elimination Round 2 (Quarterfinals, Right Lane): 4.060 seconds/267.85 mph, lost to No. 4 Clay Millican, 4.011 seconds/294.18 mph; had a cylinder out early and trailed the entire way; vs. Millican – now 3-6 all-time; 0-1 this season; 0-1 at Bristol
